Check your Meta Tags
Each page on Your Website should have the following basic tags filled out with terms matching your pages content.
The Page Url should be clean and contain the main theme term of the page ex. https://AnotherLead.com/Website-Tips/Website-Optimization-Guide
To Check Your Tags
- You can download an Automatic Tool or
- Check your site code manually
- Pull up your website and right click the background and click View Page Source, or View Source.
- Using the File Menu at the top Click Edit -> Find.
- Type the following terms into the prompt to locate them on your page source.
- Title – Simple Title Tag Open and Close – 65 character limit.
- Meta Description – meta content=description of page, name=description 150 character limit.
- H1 – Main Paragraph Header – Simple open and close tag – Your site should only contain one of these tags.
- H2 – Main Paragraph Body – Simple open and close tag – Your site can contain any number of H2 tags.
- Image Alts – search for img – check the alt value – Well described images will rank on search and bring relevant traffic.
Fill out all tags appropriately
Basic Format For Title – Page Subject | Your Organization | Phone Number or Short Promotion.
Use Relevant Engaging Information
All Pages should contain unique relevant information that people searching for your terms will find useful or engaging.
Reduce Page Load Speed
Your pages should load quickly – Use tools to measure like Page Speed Insights or Firebug for FireFox.
- Remove Slow Loading Unnecessary Content and Plugins
- If using a Content Management System like WordPress – Back it up first – Then review and install a compatible plug in that will combine files and minify code.
- Images can be compressed with tools like File Optmizer.
Check Search Engine Listings
Make Sure You are listed on the Search Engines – Go type your name into Google and Bing to see what your listing looks like – You may want to adjust your Title.
Start Tracking w/Google Accounts
Set up your Google Accounts
- Check for existing accounts first. Do not create unnecessary duplicates.
- Login to or Create your Webmaster Tools Account – This tool will give you insights on how the Search Engines See Your Site.
- Track your site for free with Google Analytics – Check your site for an Analytics or Adwords Tracking Tag – If none open a new Analytics Account and Install the Tracking Snippet.
- Enable the Display for Demographic Data.
- Link To Webmaster Tools for Search Ranking Data.

- Create Your Social Media Accounts and link your Google My Business Listing to Your Website and Your Webmaster Tools Account.
Use Segments for Relevant Data Views
Now that you have some data, take a look at your relevant view.
- Sort your data – Use the available tools to make sure your data is relevant – Exclude Yourself – Exclude Out of Area or Non Relevant Traffic – Will Depend on Your Website.
- Is your Bounce Rate High? if so – On Which Devices?, From Which Sources?, What Mediums?, Which Pages?
- Check your landing pages to see which pages are bringing in the traffic.
- Do not alter pages that bring in a significant amount of organic, direct, or referral traffic that spends time on the site.
Have Relevant Traffic But No Sales or Leads?
If you have relevant, in market traffic that aren’t buying or contacting you, you need to figure out why.
- Do they immediately leave the site?
- They are not relevant traffic.
- You are not engaging them, put yourself in their shoes and figure out why, bad design, wrong information, no quick info, credibility, no call to action, load slowly, not device compatible, etc. Check to see what your competitors are doing.
- Is your phone number visible and easy to access from Mobile & Desktop? Pull it up on your phone and browse it.
- Most old sites can work with the phone provided they have big font and graphics and people can press buttons with a finger.
- Is the font big enough to be legible?
- Is the info they need quickly available?
- Use bulleted lists with custom bullets.
- Use short paragraphs.
- Clearly State your name, type of business, and what you want from your visitor, or the content they will find here.
- Does your site have dead ends with no call to action or conversion areas? Are you hoping they will find the phone number in the top right corner or navigate to your contact page and fill out the long form?
- Do you have a well developed call to action and conversion tool at the end of each logical browsing area?
- For Retail this is an add to cart or order now button.
- Forms should be as short and easy to use as possible.
- Use Name instead of First and Last
- Phone Number should be optional – people will just use 555 if you make it mandatory.
- Inline Forms at the end of a page really help.
- Use “Placeholders” for the Form Field Labels – See the form at the bottom of the page for an example.
- Be clear about how you will use their information.
- Button should be personalized – Submit -> Get More Info -> Contact Us Today! -> Get Started Now! -> Send Me More Info -> Have an Electrician Contact Me!
- Graphics and Content should all lead the eye to the conversion area.
- Conversion Button/Phone Number should be high contrast and should pop on the page.
- Conversion Buttons should be specific and read as first person.
- Add to Cart -> Add to My Cart -> Add the “Item Short Name” to My Secure Cart”
- Quote -> Get a Quote -> Get My Quote Now! -> I’m Ready for My No Hassle Quote!
- Call -> Call Today -> Call Now to Get Started -> Call For Another Lead Today!
- Conversion Buttons should be specific and read as first person.
- Your Main Specials or Deals should also be right next to the Conversion Button, – Free Shipping – Professional – 50% off – We Treat People Right, Display these with a checkmark in front of them right next to the button.
- Validations, Accrediteds, Certificates, Recognition Icons, and Testimonials should all be near the conversion area.
- Call to Action should be big enough to read and see and should catch the attention of the user.
- Urge them right next to the button to contact you or get your service or product.
- Create a sense of urgency.
- This is the place to apply custom graphics, design skills, creativity, and other skills.
If it ain’t broke don’t fix it
If people are contacting and you and you are dependent on the business from your website, make your changes on additional pages or pages that do not generate traffic or business.
- Additional pages can be used to bring more traffic or as an area to test your new conversion layouts before moving them to high volume areas.
- Google Analytics can tell you if your pages are recieving traffic.
- Additional Tracking can tell you which pages are converting.
Cater to Your Demographics
Check the Demographics of your visitors and make sure the terms on your site relate to your preferred demographic.
